Vedanta means the culmination of the
Vedas, the most ancient scriptures, or
the Highest Knowledge pertaining to God,
soul, and world. It is impersonal and
experiential, for it is not based on the
arbitraty authority of a person or
persons, but is the record and
systemization of the superconscious
experiences of the Rishis (seers) of
India, and the summation of the exact
knowledge obtained through an
investigation of the same.

Swami
Vivekananda Founder
of the Ramakrishna
Mission & expounder of worldwide
Vedanta movement
Of Vivekananda
(1863 - 1902), a spiritual giant of the modern
age, we have only a treasure of his writings and a
few photos. In 1955, an American devotee Lillian
Montgomery recorded this eyewitness's tribute - a
vivid portrayal of "power and repose" she
experienced from the moment she encountered the
man in person.
"We believe not only in
universal toleration, we accept all
religions as true."
"Where can we go to
find God if we cannot see Him in our own
hearts and in every living being."
"The
Vedanta recognizes no sin, it only
recognizes error. And the greatest
error, says the Vedanta is to say that
you are weak, that you are a sinner, a
miserable creature, and that you have no
power and you cannot do this and that."
"We are what our thoughts have
made us; so take care about what you think.
Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they
travel far."
"You have to grow from the
inside out. None can teach you, none can
make you spiritual. There is no other
teacher but your own soul."
"You cannot believe in God
until you believe in yourself."
"All
truth is eternal. Truth is nobody's
property; no race, no individual can lay any
exclusive claim to it. Truth is the nature
of all souls."
"Stand up, be bold, and
take the blame on your own shoulders.
Do not go about throwing mud at
others; for all the faults you suffer
from, you are the sole and only
cause."
