Annual Retreat Sep. 24-26, 2010
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Our
retreat this year will be led by Pravrajika Vidyaprana, who has been a
monastic member of the Vedanta Society of Southern California for 20
years. We are honored to have her with us for this weekend of
teaching.
To register, please send an email to "Retreat" on the Contact page. $30 deposit reserves your place. Total cost is $200 for room, board and teachings.
The topic is Principles to Live By, which Vidyaprana describes as follows:
“Swami
Vivekananda desperately wanted to introduce rationality into religion.
In order to do so he went back to the Upanishads to find the purest
expression of spiritual truths. The rationality of the
Upanishadic era is based not on the logic of logicians, but on the
logic of life. This is what he promoted.
To
this end he repeatedly put forth for western audiences Sankhya's
metaphysics of 24 cosmic principles and its later non-dualistic,
Vedantic overlay. Using only what is patently available to any human
being, Swami Vivekananda maintained that anyone ought to be able to follow this system of inquiry and arrive at the ultimate Truth.
In
this retreat we will briefly present the 24 cosmic principles and
concentrate on pivotal ones to explode our notion of who we really are.
This study is intended to underpin, enliven and infuse our inquiry into
ultimate Reality.”
About Sister Vidyaprana:
Before joining the Hollywood Center, Vidyaprana was associated with
Vedanta centers elsewhere for about 12 years. She has been offering
workshops and lectures since 1997.
In addition to Swami Vivekananda's works, her areas of study have been the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Yoga Vasishtha, and traditional non-dual texts such as the Naishkarmya Siddhi
of Suresvaracharya. She’s also studied the modern non-dual
teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj with a view to comparing his
teaching to the more ancient writings.
Her purpose is to
discover the teachings which set us on fire to live a spiritual life of
constantly expanding understanding and acceptance.
